Summer 2027 brings a unique dynamic to Surrey BC licensed childcare — school-age siblings are home, kindergarten graduates are transitioning, and the summer outdoor environment is richest. This guide covers summer 2027 licensed childcare planning for Surrey BC families.
Licensed Childcare in Surrey BC: Summer vs. School Year
Unlike school-based programs, Surrey BC licensed childcare centres typically operate year-round — Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM–6:00 PM, through summer. This is one of licensed childcare’s major advantages for working parents: no summer gap. Some centres offer enhanced summer programming — outdoor focus, water play, community park visits, cultural celebrations — that makes summer a particularly enjoyable period for enrolled children. Confirm your specific centre’s summer schedule and any additional programming in May or June. See our outdoor play guide.
Summer 2027 Transitions in Surrey BC Licensed Childcare
Summer 2027 is a transition period for several cohorts: children born 2022 who complete their licensed childcare enrollment in August 2027 before starting kindergarten in September; children moving up from infant to toddler rooms as they turn 19 months; and new infant enrollments starting in July–September as parental leaves end for families whose babies were born in late 2026. Summer is also when staff vacation coverage can temporarily affect room consistency — ask about summer staffing continuity. See our kindergarten year guide.
Summer licensed childcare: No Summer Gap in Fees
licensed childcare fees (licensed care rates) continue through summer — there is no summer premium or seasonal rate increase at MCFD-licensed Surrey BC centres. Families who use licensed childcare year-round pay the same rate in July as in January. Statutory holidays in summer 2027 include: Canada Day (July 1), BC Day (first Monday in August). Most centres charge the daily fee for statutory holidays. See our licensed childcare guide.
