Surrey BC’s Hindu community — drawn from South Asian families of Indian, Nepali, Sri Lankan, and other backgrounds — has specific religious and cultural considerations when choosing licensed childcare. This guide addresses Hindu families and licensed childcare in Surrey BC.
Hindu Cultural Values and Licensed Childcare in Surrey BC
Hindu families in Surrey BC often bring: vegetarian dietary preferences (many Hindu families follow lacto-vegetarian diets; some are fully vegan; some avoid specific foods such as onion and garlic); celebration acknowledgment (Diwali, Holi, Navratri, Dussehra, Raksha Bandhan); Sanskrit or Hindi language exposure preferences; and educational values that often strongly emphasize academic excellence. Quality Surrey BC licensed centres that enroll Hindu families should accommodate vegetarian dietary needs without judgment, acknowledge Diwali and Holi as part of their cultural celebration calendar, and understand that “play-based learning” is not in conflict with educational excellence — it is its foundation. See our South Asian family guide and dietary requirements guide.
Diwali and Holi at Surrey BC Licensed Childcare
Diwali (Festival of Lights) and Holi (Festival of Colours) are the two most widely celebrated Hindu festivals — both fall within the licensed childcare calendar year. Quality Surrey BC licensed centres with Hindu enrolled families typically acknowledge Diwali with sensory light activities, story sharing, and family celebration acknowledgment. Holi’s colour tradition can be adapted for childcare with colour mixing activities and celebration discussion. Ask any centre on your tour: how do you acknowledge your enrolled families’ cultural celebrations?
